The over-the-counter derivatives market has shrunk back to pre-pandemic levels, according to new statistics from the Bank for International Settlements.

The bank’s release, published November 15, shows that the gross market value of key derivatives fell by about 20% between December 2020 and June 2021.

The gross market value of OTC derivatives stood at just below $11.6 trillion at the end of 2019. During 2020, the market’s value grew to well over $15 trillion, ending 2021 at nearly $15.8
